PayPal Plans Roll Out Of Direct Sales Of Crypto [Unconfirmed]

Fueled by job openings in early 2020 for its new Blockchain Research Group, Paypal plans to offer direct sales of cryptocurrency to its 325M userbase. While it’s currently used as an alternative means for withdrawing funds from exchanges, this would be a new option for crypto buyers.

Several sources have confirmed:

💰 Service could be expected in the next 3 months or sooner.
💰 Number of types of crypto is TBD.
💰 Working with multiple exchanges to source liquidity.
💰 Will have a built-in wallet functionality.

When officially announced, Paypal would be following other Fintech apps that have started integrations to expand its offerings outside of fiat:

  • Square rolled out BTC purchases in its Cash App in mid-2018.

  • Revolut began offering crypto to users following a 2017 partnership with Bitstamp.

  • Robinhood first offered crypto in February 2018.
