Microsoft has closed the operations side of Mixer and moved existing partners to Facebook Gaming. While the news doesn’t come as a surprise given the platform’s traction to compete versus the Big Three, the partnership paves the way for xCloud to arrive to FB Gaming enabling viewers to click and immediately play games that people are streaming.

💻 Transition from Mixer -> FB will take place over the next couple of weeks.
💻 All Mixer properties will auto redirect to FB on 7/22/20.
💻 Current Mixer Partners will be given FB Gaming Partner Status.
💻 Streamers using Mixer’s monetization program will be granted eligibility for Facebook’s Level Up program.
💻 Mixer viewers with outstanding Ember balances, channel subs, or Mixer Pro subs will receive Xbox gift card credit.

While signing blockbuster deals for the two of Twitch’s largest streamers, Ninja & Shroud earlier in 2020, the other platforms moved quickly to secure deals for their existing top talent. As the duo recently gained free agency, it’s reported that Ninja made ~$30M from Mixer, and Shroud made ~$10M.

No timetable has been given for the xCloud integration. This is a cautionary tale for platforms without a proper follow up plan in building and fostering a community along with the internal decision making of the platform’s direction (Microsoft mulling axing Mixer, selling it off, or injecting more cash to see if it could scale to compete).
