We place multiple bets across our family of apps to test and learn how people want to express themselves. One of these tests was Lasso, our stand-alone short-form video app, which we have decided to shut down. We thank everyone who shared their creativity and feedback with us, which we’ll look to incorporate in our other video experiences,

Lasso, Facebook’s TikTok clone, will shut down as the platform looks to shift their focus to Instagram’s Reels feature. Users were notified Wednesday to download any videos they wanted to keep.

📲 Launched in 2018.
📲 Users could shoot up to 15-second long videos and overlay popular songs.
📲 Was only available in select markets (US + a few LATAM countries), no additional support to expand.
📲 Centered around an algorithmic feed of recommended video.
📲 App lead, Brandy Voss, left days after launch for Netflix.

Mobile insights firm App Annie reported on June 1, that Lasso had fewer than 80,000 daily active users on Android, with its biggest market being Mexico. iOS data was unavailable due to lack of users to report as per TechCrunch.

Facebook will also shut down Hobbi, its Pinterest clone that launched in Feb 2020.
