Sony is acquiring a 1.4% stake in Epic Games

Sony has announced that it has invested a minority stake in Epic Games. As next gen consoles are due up, Sony is looking for an edge in the competition.

✔️ Epic Games raised $1.58B in three previous funding rounds.
✔️ Sony has invested $250M for a minority stake.
✔️ Hinted at bringing more virtual media experiences from Epic’s previous successes with events x Sony subsidiaries in music + film.
✔️ May see more gaming integrations as Epic was responsible for cross-play on Fortnite and Sony’s most recent demo of the Unreal Engine 5.
The investment allows Sony and Epic to broaden their collaboration in their respective spaces, Sony’s entertainment assets and technology and Epic’s social entertainment platform and digital ecosystem.
